How To Apply

To apply, follow the steps outlined below. Any questions about the application process or requirements should be directed to NoCo’s Admissions Office.

1. Submit Your Application

Applications open August 1. Submit your application online by the deadline. Applications may be submitted after the deadline on a case-by-case basis.

Application materials to be included (to be uploaded directly into the application):

  1. Essay/Personal Statement: “What's the future of the art form for your chosen major?”

  2. Self-Reported Grade Point Average (GPA): You may submit your current GPA as a part of your application, even if it might change later in the school year. This field is not required for the submission of your application, but it is recommended.

  3. Official, up-to-date high school academic transcripts or General Educational Development (GED) scores. A candidate for admission must be a graduate of, or student who will be graduated from, an accredited secondary school, or must have passed a state secondary school equivalency examination. If you have college/university credits at another institution, you must also submit an official transcript.

  4. Headshot/Performance Resume: A performance resume is required for all applicants. Resumes should demonstrate major-related experience:

    • Musical Theatre Dance: Provide a list of your dance training, including summer intensives, years of training in particular styles, instructors, master classes, featured roles, dance school(s), awards, etc.

    • Musical Theatre: Provide a list of recent roles in plays and/or musicals (educational, amateur and/or professional), vocal and/or acting coaches, relevant dance training (if applicable), master classes with industry professionals, awards, etc.

    • TV/Film Performance: Provide a list of recent roles in plays and/or screen acting (TV and/or film), acting coaches, master classes with industry professionals, competitions, awards, etc.

All enrolled students will participate in assessments on the first day of classes in dance, singing, music theory and acting. Students will be sorted into the appropriate leveled classes based on these assessments.

2. Provide Optional Supplemental Materials

NoCo does not require SAT/ACT scores or proof of academic merit to complete an application. However, if you feel any of these supplemental materials are an area of strength, please email the Admissions Office to submit these additional materials.

NoCo recommends submitting 1-2 letters of artistic recommendation written from teachers or professionals within the performing arts that can attest to the applicant's dedication, growth, and abilities in their chosen field. Letters should be emailed or mailed to the Admissions Office directly from the recommender.

3. Audition

The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts is planning to host in-person/on-campus auditions as well as attendance at several unified auditions nationwide throughout the 2023 admission cycle. Virtual auditions/callbacks will be considered for TV/Film applicants and on a case-by-case basis for all other majors. Applicants will be contacted by Admissions to schedule an audition after they submit their application. More information will be provided to applicants during the application process, and a list of audition requirements will be sent to the applicant via email. We do not hold prescreens, as we believe all students should have the right to audition in person.

The Norwalk Conservatory operates on a semi-rolling admissions basis. Admissions decisions may be issued as early as (2) weeks from your audition.

OPPORTUNITY

The Norwalk Conservatory is an official partner of The All in One Conference. The A1s audition 3,000 college students and professional actors and admit 900 to audition for the Artistic Directors and Casting Directors of the country's leading regional theatres and entertainment companies. All of our students are guaranteed a spot at The A1 Conference.

We leverage strong relationships and partnerships with regional theatres in the tri-state area for internships, job placement, and audition opportunities. These regional theatres come directly to our campus to recruit talent.

We're a quick 45-minute train ride from the Big Apple. Unlike other conservatories, we expect our students to be auditioning while in school for professional work.
